There are so many beautiful cities, towns and villages in the UK that you can visit and in this article I decided to highlight some specific streets that are particularly pretty.

Of course, some of them are pretty famous and I’m sure you already know them but others might surprise you.

Even the smallest villages can have incredibly pretty streets and that’s also what you will find here.

I’ve been exploring the UK extensively since 2016 and you can find below the top beautiful streets in the UK.

1. Victoria Street, Edinburgh

Edinburgh victoria street which was the inspiration for diagon alley in Harry Potter

Victoria Street is one of the most famous streets in Edinburgh. It’s known as the real-life version of Diagon Alley since it’s one of the sources of inspiration of J.K. Rowling who used to live in Edinburgh when she wrote the books.

Whether you are a Harry Potter fan or not, you’ll love Victoria Street. It’s very colourful and there are loads of cute shops and cafés.

The curve of the street also makes it particularly pretty and a great photo spot.

PRO TIP: If you want to take beautiful photos, take the sidewalk at the top of Victoria Street. This will lead you to Victoria Terrace. You’ll be a bit higher up which gives a better angle for photos.

2. Main Street, Tobermory

Tobermory is a small town located on the isle of Mull in Scotland. It’s one of the most colourful towns in the UK and the main street is incredibly cute.

All the houses and buildings are painted in different colours (especially the last ones near the lighthouse) and you can find all sorts of things from pubs to museums.

It’s also located by the sea so you get a great view of the harbour.

3. Portobello Road, London

Located in Notting Hill in London, Portobello Road is one of the most famous streets in the UK.

It’s known for its colourful houses, making it one of the most Instagrammable spots in London, as well as its antique market and cute cafés.

It’s a great place to discover if you want to take photos or go shopping.

4. Thomas Street, Manchester

Thomas Street is located in the Northern Quarter of Manchester. It used to be an industrial district with a lot of cotton warehouses but nowadays it’s a very trendy neighbourhood with loads of street art and cocktail bars.

Thomas Street goes from Stevenson Square to Shudehill and is a great place to find beautiful murals and cool bars with funky facades.

It’s also very lively in summer since there are tables outside and a lot of fairy lights.

5. The Shambles, York

The Shambles are the most famous street in York. They are located in the city centre and are a perfect example of a mediaeval street.

Here you will find loads of timber-framed buildings with jettied floors. It looks like something you’d find in Harry Potter!

So much so actually that a lot of potion and wizard shops have opened here over the years. While it’s not actually a filming location for any of the Harry Potter movies, it’s definitely a great place to visit if you are a Harry Potter fan.

SECRET TIP: The shop at number 10 – 11 has a little hidden door at the bottom of the frame of the main door. It’s a cool hidden gem.

6. Water Lane, Castle Combe

Castle Combe is known as the prettiest village in England so it’s with no surprise that I’ve included it in this article.

While the entire village is absolutely stunning, there is one particular row of houses that is very pretty.

It’s called water lane and it’s located all the way down at the bottom of The Street, along the river by Brook.

PHOTO TIP: If you stand on the other side of the bridge, you’ll get a fantastic angle with the bridge, the lane and the river.

7. Main Street, Haworth

Haworth in West Yokshire

Haworth is a village located in West Yorkshire. It’s very easy to get there on a day trip from Manchester or Leeds.

It’s known for its literary connections since that’s where the Brontë sisters used to live. If you are a bit of a bookworm, that’s definitely a good destination for you.

In terms of pretty streets, Haworth’s Main Street is almost unbeatable. It’s absolutely stunning and everything you’d expect from a village in Yorkshire.

It’s a beautiful cobbled street with stone houses, shops and cafés that unveil beautiful landscapes in the background.

It’s so magical and there are so many cute shops and cafés. I particularly recommend checking out the Cabinet of Curiosities and Cobbles and Clay for a slice of delicious cake.

It’s also a very dog-friendly destination so if you are visiting with your pooch, there are plenty of things to do.
