Located in West Yorkshire, only an hour from Manchester, Haworth is a picturesque town that makes for the perfect day trip.
Known for its deep literary connections and enchanting landscapes, Haworth is a must-visit for anyone exploring the UK. And while this is a small town, there is actually a lot you can do here.
So, if you’ve never been, keep on reading. I will tell you everything about the reasons why you need to visit Haworth.
1. It’s Such a Beautiful Town

With its cobbled streets and charming historic buildings, Haworth looks like a town straight out of a storybook.
Walking through the village, with its quaint shops and cafes, feels like stepping back in time. The best part is when you are at the top of Haworth Main Street.
You can see the street going down, with the beautiful stone houses and shops on the side and the moors in the background. It’s simply stunning.
2. That’s Where the Brontë Sisters Used to Live

If you are into literature, then Haworth has to be on your bucket list! Some of the most famous English writers used to live here, and yes I am talking about the Brontë sisters.
This means you can actually visit the place where they used to live but also discover what their inspiration was.
Make sure to visit the Brontë Parsonage Museum, once the home of Charlotte, Emily, and Anne Brontë, which used to be their house and where they wrote some of their most famous work.
3. There is a Steam Train

Alright, who doesn’t love a bit of a nostalgic ride? The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway offers just that.
It runs through the Worth Valley, from Keighley to Oxenhope and while it’s only 5 miles, it is very scenic!
It’s a bit like you’ve been transported back in time, and the views, let me tell you, are something else.
It’s a fantastic way to see the area without having to lace up your hiking boots. Also, it’s worth mentioning that it’s always a cool thing to do with children and it is dog-friendly.
4. There are Loads of Hiking Opportunities

If you love hiking, Haworth will be your kind of paradise. It’s surrounded by the moors which makes it a great place to go for epic walks.
With trails leading you through landscapes that inspired some of the greatest works in English literature, you’ll feel like you’re walking through a novel.
The most popular walk is the Bronté waterfall but Haworth Moor and Denholme Clough are also excellent options.
5. The Brontë Waterfall is Beautiful

If you’re up for a bit of a hike, you’ve got to check out the Brontë Waterfall. It’s a favourite spot for locals and visitors alike.
You can start from Haworth town centre but it’s easier to park at Penistone Hill country park and start from there.
The walk isn’t difficult because it’s mainly flat and you get fantastic views of the moors. Once you reach the waterfall, you’ll see how peaceful and pretty it is.
Admittedly, this is not the most impressive waterfall you can see in the UK but it has a magical feel that can inspire books! (which is exactly what happened!)
6. There are Unique Shops

Haworth isn’t just about the great outdoors and literary history; it’s also got some pretty cool shops.
We’re talking about places you won’t find anywhere else, selling everything from vintage finds to handcrafted goodies. It’s the perfect spot to pick up a unique souvenir or gift that you won’t find in any old high street.
My favourite is the Cabinet of Curiosities. It looks like a magic shop! Inside, you can find all sorts of cool objects such as candles, soaps but also fancy editions of famous books (including the Brontë’s of course).
7. It’s a Great Place for a Meal

There are a lot of places where you can go for a meal in Haworth. Traditional pubs, cute cafés… it has it all.
They are also usually quite affordable.
My favourite is Cobbles & Clay. It’s both a café / tea room and pottery painting studio which means you can go for a meal, cake and get to do some craft activities.
Their cakes are absolutely delicious and they have a lot of vegan options.
8. It Has Some ‘Harry Potter’ Vibes

If you are a Harry Potter fan, you definitely need to go to Haworth. While it has actually no connection with JK Rowling or the Harry Potter series, it just feels like somewhere that could be in the books.
The fact that Haworth is so quaint and set in time gives that feeling but it’s also all the shops.
The Cabinet of Curiosities is particularly ‘Diagon Alley’-like. You can find all sorts of things here and it really looks like a place where you would go to buy a magic wand.
So, while it might not be in the books, it’s easy to pretend you’re in the wizarding world for a bit.
Haworth is one of those beautiful places that just sticks with you. It has charm, history and nature all wrapped up in one beautiful package.
So, grab your camera, pack your walking shoes, and get ready to explore one of West Yorkshire’s most enchanting towns.
