Their 1-bedroom house sleeps up to 6. It’s located a bit on the outside of the town, in a very quiet location.


Breakfast is included which is always a plus! The amenities include AC, Wi-Fi and free parking.

Comfort Inn Coober Pedy Experience


The Comfort Inn is known as the best underground motel in Coober Pedy.



It was used as an Opal Mine until the 60s which makes the experience even more authentic.


As it’s a motel, you won’t have the place for yourself but will be renting a room. That having been said, each room has a little kitchen with a microwave and fridge so you can eat there.


The motel is located near the main road where the IGA is. You can easily go to the supermarket, grab something and eat it back at the motel.

Not only was the house dug into the Earth but the main bed is too! If you love cubby beds and unusual places, this is as good as it’s going to get!

What to do in Coober Pedy


All these places are ideally located within a few minutes drive from the main attractions in Coober Pedy.


Here are a few things to check out during your stay:

  • Kangaroo Sanctuary
  • Big Winch


But the real highlight of Coober Pedy is not in town but in the desert! The Breakaways are one of the most beautiful places in Australia! A hidden gem that must be on your bucket list!


Located 30km from Coober Pedy, the Breakaways are a stunning chain of mountains. You can get there by car. From the Stuart Highway, you will turn and start driving on a dirt road, along the Dog Fence.


Although you can make it to the first lookout with a 2WD, I wouldn’t recommend going any further if you don’t have a 4WD. It’s pretty remote and bumpy.
