Yes, you’ve heard me right! I have a bit of a taco obsession and I absolutely loved the ones on Holbox.
In this article, you will find all my recommendations for the best tacos on Holbox and where to find them.

1. Holbox Taco Tour
My first recommendation is the taco tour on Holbox. If you like tacos (and cocktails), then that’s the best way to experience the food culture on the island.
The tour is run by a local, Lorena. It takes place in the evening at 6:30PM and lasts for about 3 hours.
Lorena will send a taxi to pick you up at your hotel and bring you to the first taco place.
The thing I really love about this tour is that we got to try 4 different tacos (prawns, steak, octopus and birria) and we got 4 cocktails.
She also explains everything about tacos, what they are and give you a lot of insight into Mexican culture.
This is a great opportunity to talk to a Mexican person and understand what their food culture really is.
Also, she answered a lot of questions we had about Mexico in general so it was very interesting.
2. Tuch Holbox
These were my favourite tacos on Holbox! While I’m usually more of a street food kind of girl, these were simply so good that I couldn’t resist (I actually went several times and tried all of them!).
Tuch is a bar located by the beach. It’s very close to the Holbox letters and is a convenient spot.
During the day they offer a Happy Hour so you can get two mezcalitas (or something else) for a very good price.
But in terms of tacos, they simply set the standard! All of them are absolutely delicious. If you like seafood, it’s a great spot because most of them have prawns or octopus.
They also have a surf and turf one (called campeche) with both prawns and steak.
They cook the steak to perfection so I highly recommend it!
3. Barba HBX
Barba HBX is a great bar restaurant for both cocktails and tacos. They offer several seafood tacos and they are all good but the garlic prawns tacos are by far the best!
I also recommend their smokey margarita which is actually made with mezcal.
If you fancy a soft drink, opt for the horchata. They named it ‘the best horchata ever’ and let me tell you something, they don’t overpromise. It’s delicious!
4. Big Fish
Big Fish Holbox is a more traditional place to eat in Holbox since they specialise in seafood and traditional Holboxeña food.
Of course with that name you probably already guessed that their main offer is seafood.
I loved their octopus taco here but honestly, everything they make is delicious!
5. Temox Tacos & Mezcal
Temox is very well located because it’s very close to the main square. They are open all day so you can go for lunch or dinner.
They often have live music on in the evening as well so it’s a good spot.
I loved their prawn tacos there but they also offer some more unique ones such as the Oaxaca taco with cricket.
If you feel adventurous, give it a go!
6. Los Tacos De Barbacoa
Los Tacos De Barbacoa is a street food stand. You can find it on the side of Holbox central park (behind the stage, near the kids games and in front of Olive’s and Los de Asada.
You can find several street food taco places but this one has beef barbecue birria tacos and they are fantastic.
It’s a lot cheaper than the other tacos mentioned but it’s more traditional. The people running this taco stand are lovely as well which makes it even better.
They cook the meat at home as well which is a lot more sanitary. Holbox can be dusty so it’s better when they prepare everything at home.
Just order their traditional birria taco and you’ll see, it’s delicious. They are open until late so it’s a great spot to stop by on a night out.
