The travel company Expedia has recently released a report with all the travel trends of 2024. This includes the reasons for travelling as well as the most popular destinations.
One of the major reasons mentioned in the report is set-jetting.
Yes, set-jetting, not jet-setting.
So what is it? Set-jetting is the action of going somewhere after seeing it in a movie or TV show. Basically, it’s visiting filming locations as well as locations that have inspired the creators of the shows.
This has always been one of the top travel reasons for international visitors coming to the UK since we are the home of Harry Potter!
But in recent years, a lot more shows have been featuring our beautiful landscapes and towns.
Here are the top destinations in the UK for set-jetters in 2024.
Scottish Highlands – Outlander

Outlander is a TV show on Starz that has been running for 8 seasons. It’s based on the books of Diana Gabaldon and is mainly set in Scotland.
It has been driving tourism in Scotland for a number of years now. You can even find a lot of Outlander tours from Edinburgh or Glasgow but since the 8th season was released last year, it has inspired a lot of people to book holidays in the Scottish Highlands in 2024.
Some of the locations featured include Glencoe (especially in the opening scene of the pilot) as well as the small village of Kinloch Rannoch (which is the real life version of Craigh na Dun).
Bath – Bridgerton

Bridgerton is a series of 8 books written by Julia Quinn that was turned into a Netflix show. The first season was released in 2020 and the third one is set to air in May 2024.
It takes place in England during the regency area and has become an international phenomenon.
For this reason, loads of tourists now come to England to see the filming locations and their top destination is Bath.
It was featured in the second season and will also be in the third. The main spots are: Royal Crescent, Abbey Green and Trim Street.
London – The Crown & Bridgerton

London has always been the top destination in the UK for international visitors but even more so now that the last season of the Crown was released.
If you haven’t seen it, it’s the one when Princess Diana passes away which means that there are some pretty famous scenes including the funeral with Prince William and Harry walking behind the coffin on the mall.
There are other locations in the Crown that are in London which is why it is a top destination.
It’s also a top destination for fans of Bridgerton, especially Greenwich which was featured in several episodes.
Windsor Castle – The Crown

Windsor castle is the largest and oldest occupied castle in Europe so while it didn’t need a TV show to put it on the map, the Crown has definitely put the focus back on it.
In the final episode of season 6, you can see Prince Charles and Camilla getting married. This took place at Windsor Castle and while the actual filming location used was York Minster, tourists are now flocking to Windsor Castle to discover that famous location.
It also featured an interesting scene with the Queen and all the actresses that portrayed her (Claire Foy, Olivia Colman and Imelda Staunton).
If you are interested in visiting Windsor Castle, you can buy a ticket here.
And that’s it for the top 2024 destinations for TV show lovers in the UK. What about you? Do you visit places because you saw them in movies or series?
