A trip to Yellowstone is truly the experience of a lifetime. There are so many beautiful and unique places to see, you’ll love it! But it’s true that it is a very large national park and it requires you to be well prepared.
Of course, you could just wing it but if you are well prepared, you’ll make the most of the experience and believe me, it’s worth it!
Here are 5 apps you can download on your phone that will help you explore Yellowstone and make your time in America’s first national park even better.

1. Guide Along
Guide Along is an audio driving tour app. This means that you download it on your phone and can then buy a driving tour for the national park of your choice.
In this case, you can buy the tour of Yellowstone or the bundle that includes both Yellowstone and Grand Teton.
Once you buy it, you can download the tour and map on your phone and you’re ready to go.
I recommend connecting your phone to your car’s speaker so the sound is better but that’s literally all you have to do, apart from starting the app when you start driving in the morning.
The app will use your location and start giving you commentary as you drive through designated points.
You don’t need to do anything, the app will do everything for you.
It’s seriously one of the best travelling apps out there and it will truly make your time in Yellowstone better.
The guide will share some facts and information about Yellowstone but also some travel tips.
He will also tell you which stops are the best and which ones can be skipped which is extremely helpful.
2. NPS Yellowstone App
The NPS app was created by the National Park Service staff which means you can find official information here.
It’s very useful because you can find all the hiking trails in the park (with maps, time, length and everything) as well as all the predicted eruption times for the geysers which is an information you’ll want to look at quite often.
Also, you can download the content so you have access to everything offline. This is very useful because there is no signal in Yellowstone (or at least most of it).
3. Spotify
You will be driving a lot in Yellowstone and who says road trip, says music playlist!
I highly recommend using Spotify (or any other music app) so you can have some music in the car while driving.
Some radio stations are available as well but they don’t always work so backup music is always a good thing to have.
I also recommend downloading your playlists so you have access to everything offline.
4. Google Maps (+ download the map)
While you can get around the park just using the map from the newspaper they give you at the entrance and using the signs, it’s always useful to have access to Google Maps and the navigation settings.
If anything, at least it will give you the distances and time required to get to the next place.
Make sure to download the area on your phone so you have access to it while offline.
5. Alltrails
Alltrails is a hiking app where you can find trails everywhere in the world. All of the main Yellowstone hikes and boardwalks can be found on the Alltrails app.
You can save them as favourites in a dedicated list and download them to have access to the walks while exploring Yellowstone.
If you stick to the hot spots and the boardwalks, you won’t necessarily need them but if you’re going hiking and off the beaten path, it’s a good thing to have.
