Are you heading to Paris in March and wondering what to wear? I’m here to help!

March is a transitional month in France, where winter slowly gives way to spring, but the weather can still be unpredictable.

This means that it’s not the easiest month to pack for because you don’t really know what you are going to get but as a general thing you should expect a mix of crisp mornings, mild afternoons, and the occasional rain shower.

Visiting Paris in March means fewer crowds compared to the peak tourist season, making it an excellent time to explore famous landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum, and charming Parisian cafés without long lines.

However, since the weather can vary, dressing in stylish yet practical layers is key to staying comfortable while looking effortlessly chic—just like the Parisians!

So, are you ready? Let’s discover what you should pack for Paris in March.

What is the Weather Like in Paris in March?

paris in march

March in Paris is a mix of late winter and early spring weather. Temperatures typically range from 6°C (43°F) to 14°C (57°F).

Rain is frequent but usually light, with an average of 10-14 days of rainfall in the month. While you may get some beautiful sunny days, overcast skies are more common. Wind can also make it feel cooler, particularly along the River Seine.

Because the weather varies so much, it’s important to look at the weather forecast just before your trip and adapt at the last minute.

Essential Packing List for Paris in March

As a general thing though, it’s fair to say that Paris in March is neither cold or hot which means you have to go for mid-season outfits.

There is no need for bulky layers but some layering is helpful. The best option is to use several light layers so you can adapt during the day.

You will find below my recommended packing list for Paris in March but please bear in mind that outfits are a personal choice and while I try to cover all angles, you need to adapt the list to your own style.

Clothing

  • Trench Coat or Light Wool Coat – A classic trench coat is perfect for Paris in March. If you tend to feel cold, opt for a light wool-blend coat instead. We love wool-blend coats in France and we usually always have a mid-season one, that’s the one you should go for!
  • Blazers or Cardigans – Another staple in the French style! Blazers and cardigans are both chic and practical. You can easily put them on or take them off if it’s a bit warmer. Also, they go with everything!
  • Long-Sleeve Tops & Blouses – Pack neutral long-sleeve tops and blouses.
  • Tank tops – These are helpful as a base layers if it’s a bit cold (especially at the beginning of the month).
  • Light Sweaters – A lightweight wool or cashmere sweater is ideal for staying warm on cooler days.
  • Jeans & Trousers – Straight-leg or jeans are perfect for casual sightseeing.
  • Midi Dresses & Skirts – A midi dress with tights and ankle boots makes for a stylish yet comfortable outfit.
  • Tights – If you will be wearing skirts or dresses, make sure you wear them with tights as it’s still way too cold to not wear tights. They don’t need to be overly warm but dark tights are better.

Footwear

  • Comfortable Leather Boots – A must-have for walking on cobblestone streets while staying stylish. I highly recommend wearing chelsea boots as they are the most convenient but if you are visiting at the beginning of the month you can also opt for knee-high boots.
  • Chic Sneakers – Opt for minimalist sneakers like Veja, Adidas Stan Smith, or Converse for a casual yet fashionable look.

Bags

  • Crossbody Bag with Zipper – Paris is known for pickpockets, so a secure, stylish crossbody bag is essential.
  • Tote Bag – Always practical for carrying an umbrella, water bottle, or small purchases.

Accessories

  • Light Scarf – A Parisian staple that adds warmth and style.
  • Small Umbrella – March is known for occasional showers, so a compact umbrella is handy.

Electronics

  • Power Bank – Useful for long days exploring the city as you will probably use your phone a lot.
  • Universal Travel Adapter – Essential for charging devices in France. You can opt for a European adapter or an international one (which I find more practical since you can re-use it in other places in the world, including at home).
  • Camera/Phone

Paperwork

  • Passport & Copies
  • Travel Insurance
  • Hotel & Train Reservations
