November is quite a quiet month in terms of tourism in Paris. It’s the end of the autumn season and the weather is a bit more unpredictable.

The temperatures are quite cool, the rain more frequent and the days shorter at this time of the year which means that’s the perfect time to explore the museums and have some cozy lunches in the Parisian brasseries.

In this guide, I’ll tell you everything you need to pack for your trip to Paris in November and give you some insider tips on French fashion.

Paris in November is typically quite cool and damp, with temperatures ranging from 7°C to 13°C (45°F to 55°F).

Rain is frequent, and the skies are often overcast, though occasional sunny days can occur.

This means you’ll need to pack layers, warm clothing, and waterproof items to stay comfortable.

It’s one of the hardest seasons to pack for because the weather is quite unpredictable and you need to pack for more possibilities but don’t worry, visiting Paris in November is also a great experience and you get to see all the famous sights without the crowds and that’s priceless.

Essential Packing List for Paris in November

You can find below the perfect packing list for Paris in November with all the items you should be packing.

Clothing

  • Warm Coat: A wool or insulated coat will keep you warm on chilly days and help you blend in with the stylish Parisians. It’s important to make sure it’s a warm coat because between the cool temperatures, the rain and the wind, it can feel quite cold. A waterproof and stylish trench coat is also suitable as long as it’s very warm. A puffy jacket is also very suited to the weather but something French people tend to wear less.
  • Knit Sweaters: These are great for layering under your coat. They will keep you warm and look very stylish. Make sure to take a few. I also recommend taking neutral colours since the French don’t usually wear bright colours. Turtlenecks are also a great option and something we wear a lot.
  • Long-Sleeve Tops: Ideal for cooler days and easy to layer under sweaters.
  • Tank tops or Spaghetti tops. These make for the perfect extra layer. You can wear them under your long-sleeve t-shirt and they will keep you warm.
  • Trousers and Jeans: Dark jeans or warm trousers are versatile and practical for walking around Paris in cooler weather.
  • Warm Dresses with Tights: Opt for heavier fabrics that are still stylish and pair them with opaque tights to stay warm. Once again, I recommend neutral colours for your dresses.
  • Cardigans or Light Jumpers: Useful for layering, especially when transitioning from outdoor to indoor settings. Cardigans are also better if you wear dresses.
  • Winter skirts with tights. If you don’t want to wear a dress, a skirt paired with tights and a knit jumper is also ideal.
  • Underwear and Socks
  • Pyjamas

Shoes

  • Comfortable Walking Shoes: There are a lot of cobblestone streets in Paris so make sure you wear comfortable shoes. These can be sneakers (although they are not that popular amongst French women) but try to take some that would be at least a bit waterproof since there is a high chance of rain.
  • Flat Leather Boots: Ankle boots or Chelsea boots are ideal in Paris since they are comfortable and very stylish. A lot of Parisians wear them. Make sure to break into them first though since you will be walking a lot.

Bags

  • Suitcase or Travel Backpack
  • Handbag or Stylish Backpack
  • Money Belt: Unfortunately, Paris is full of pickpockets so keeping your money and valuables in a money belt under your coat is the best way to keep everything safe.

Accessories

  • Small Umbrella: A must-have for the frequent rain.
  • Light Scarf or Pashmina: Adds warmth and a touch of Parisian style.
  • Jewellery: Simple, elegant pieces that aren’t too valuable—Paris is known for pickpockets in tourist areas.

Electronics

Paperwork

  • Passport & Copies
  • Travel Insurance Documents
  • Hotel Reservation & Itinerary
  • Bank Card + Revolut or Wise Card

What to Wear in Paris in November Depending on the Weather

☀️ If it’s sunny ☀️

Wear a t-shirt, a knit sweater under a warm coat, paired with jeans and ankle boots. Add a scarf for style.

☁️ If it’s cloudy ☁️

This is the ideal weather for a winter dress with tights and boots. A scarf and hat will keep you warm as you explore the city.

🌧️ If it rains 🌧️

A waterproof trench or coat over your cozy knit sweater, paired with waterproof boots. Don’t forget your umbrella.

Things Not to Wear in Paris in November

  • Shorts: November is simply too cold for shorts.
  • Summer Dresses
  • Thin, Non-Waterproof Shoes: Paris can be rainy, and non-waterproof shoes will leave your feet cold and wet.
  • Overly Casual Clothes: While comfort is important, Parisians tend to dress up a bit more, so try to avoid overly casual items like sweatpants or overly sporty outfits unless you’re heading to the gym.

With this packing list and insider tips, you’ll be well-prepared to enjoy your November trip to Paris, no matter what the weather brings!
