Summer is just around the corner and if, like me, you love eating a good ice cream during your holidays, this article is for you.
The UK may not be the most famous country when it comes to food but we can honestly say we have some amazing products, especially when it comes to dairy products.
In this article, I’ll tell you everything about the best local British ice cream brands you can find around the UK. They are all delicious and will, for sure, make your day!

1. Roskilly’s – Cornwall
Roskilly’s is an organic farm located in Cornwall. It’s run by a couple, Joe and Rachel, who started by selling clotted cream in the 60s but then developed many other products.
Their most recent addition (since 2009) is the ice cream.
All their ice cream is made with the milk from the farm (apart from the vegan one).
They have loads of different flavours including clotted cream vanilla, golden fudge, mint choc, chocolate and more.
You can find them in a lot of ice cream parlours around Cornwall, including the one right in front of St. Michael’s Mount, but also directly in their farm.
Both the normal ice cream and vegan one are delicious and the perfect treat on a hot summer day in Cornwall.
2. The Ice Cream Farm – Cheshire
When it comes to delicious local ice cream in the North West, it’s hard to beat Cheshire Farm Ice Cream!
Their dairy farm is located in Cheshire, near Chester, and can be visited every day.
They make all sorts of absolutely delicious ice cream, sorbet and vegan ice creams.
Some of the flavours include banoffee, clotted cream, Cointreau and Orange, honeycomb and more.
The thing I particularly love about Cheshire Farm Ice Cream is that they have both classic flavours but also unique ones so it makes everyone happy.
While they did start in the farm, you can now find them in most pubs and parlours in the North West and North Wales.
They can be bought at Beeston Castle café for example but also in many National Trust properties.
3. Marshfields Farm – South Gloucestershire
This is probably the most famous British ice cream in the UK. Marshfields Farm Ice Cream started as a small business in Gloucestershire but you can now find them everywhere around England and Wales since they supply 8,000 locations.
The flavour range is very interesting and unique. You’ll find flavours such as caramel fudge, cookie dough, blackcurrants in clotted cream and of course all the classics.
But the thing that truly made them famous is not even these delicious scoops, but their dog ice creams!
That’s right, they made dog-friendly ice cream! You can find them in the parlours as well and they tend to sell out quickly because let’s be honest, we love our pooches too much!
4. Grandpa Greene’s – Greater Manchester
Located in Oldham, in Greater Manchester, Grandpa Greene’s ice cream is not that famous in the rest of the UK but I can promise you something, locals know about it and love them!
Their ice cream parlour in Saddleworth is always busy and for good reason, the ice cream is delicious! They are all hand-made and use milk produced locally.
You can buy scoops in a cone or tub but also buy full pots to take away and store in your own freezer.
The parlour is open every day and well located near the canal where you can go for a walk.
5. Arran Ice Cream – Scotland
If you are visiting the isle of Arran in Scotland, then stopping at the Arran Ice Cream parlour shop is a must do!
All their ice cream is made by hand in small batches and using milk produced on Arran. And let me tell you something, they are delicious!
Flavours include the classics but also the unique Arran Gold ice cream which is made with a local whiskey liquor.
You can find the parlour in Brodrick, near the beach but also in many cafés on the island.
6. Pola – Nottingham
Pola is a bit different to the other ones mentioned because it’s an ice lolly rather than an ice cream.
The brand was created by Isaac Lambini in Nottingham. He decided to create delicious lollies using real fruit and sell them in a cart in the streets of Nottingham.
While you can’t find them everywhere, you can order the lollies online.
Also, you might have heard of it recently since he was in the last season of Dragon’s Den.
Spoiler alert: the dragons loved the ice lollies!
